Organization Day Starts the Conversation for our 2022 Trails Platform
November 16th was Organization Day in Indiana, the official first day of the legislative session. As it does every year, the Indiana General Assembly gathered to provide legislators the opportunity to meet with other lawmakers and staff to discuss issues in anticipation of the upcoming session. It’s the first annual roll call for state legislators, swearing in of new members, and allows caucuses from the Senate and the House of Representatives to organize for when the session officially begins on January 4, 2022.
Greenways Foundation partnered with the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy to host a Legislative Trails Caucus reception across from the Statehouse. Many thanks to those legislators who stopped by and to the Indiana Association of Realtors for letting us use their wonderful event space for the day. This was a great opportunity for us to start discussing Greenway Foundation’s 2022 legislative platform.
The three main aspects of next year’s platform are:
1) Support for a Statewide Trails Economic Impact Study
2) Creation of a Sustainable Trails Development and Maintenance Fund
3) Support for Increased Funding for Capital Appropriations in the FY 2023-24 Capital Budget
